When Slowing Down Feels Wrong (But Is Exactly What You Need)
Aug 29, 2025
You feel the urge to keep moving.
To figure it out.
To make progress.
To stay in motion.
And yet, something in you is asking to pause.
To rest.
To slow down.
That request can feel uncomfortable.
Even wrong.
Because we’ve been taught that stillness means we’re lazy, behind, or not trying hard enough.
But sometimes slowing down is the bravest, most productive thing you can do.
Why slowing down feels so hard.
We’re trained to equate busyness with worth.
We measure ourselves by output and speed.
So when our body or spirit asks us to stop, we resist.
It feels like failure when in reality it’s wisdom.
Slowing down is not the absence of growth.
It is the soil where growth takes root.
It gives your nervous system space to reset.
It lets clarity rise instead of being forced.
It allows you to hear yourself again.
Without that pause, you can run fast in the wrong direction.
Here are ways to practice slowing down:
-
Notice when urgency is coming from fear, not truth.
-
Build in short pauses, even if it’s just one breath.
-
Trust that rest is part of the process, not an interruption.
You don’t have to earn rest.
You don’t have to explain why you need it.
You just have to let it happen.
Growth is not about speed.
It’s about direction.
And slowing down helps you find yours.
